In April 2009, an outbreak of human cases of swine influenza (H1N1) was discovered in North America, and cases are being found in a growing number of states and countries. The mission of the American Red Cross is helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies, including public health emergencies such as pandemic flu. Everyday Heroes
The Oregon
Pacific Chapter of the American Red Cross is excited to unveil a new
signature, community event that will celebrate "Everyday Heroes" in our
communities. The events will recognize ordinary people and animals who
have demonstrated extraordinary courage, service to the community, gone
above and beyond the call of duty, or had a profound influence on
others. Everyday Heroes will benefit the life-saving work of the
Oregon Pacific Chapter.

More than 93% of
the 74,000 disasters the Red Cross responds to each year are fire
related- that's approximately 180 a day. Unlike other natural
disasters, most home fires can be prevented. The Red Cross is
committed to teaching people the skills they need to prevent home
fires, protect themselves should they experience a fire, and helping
home fire victims.
